To Darwin

Wednesday 8th June

Before going to Darwin, we wanted to go and look at Bird Billabong which is on Mary River. The walk to the water was about 4.5km, again through recently burned country, so there were not many birds. However we did see some more Red-tailed Black Cockatoos which was a delight,

and some interesting grasses and palms, and a yellow flowered tree. Rob finds the bird sounds mostly unfamiliar, and it is the same with the plants, so I don’t have a clue as to its ID.

A Chocolate Argus butterfly

On the billabong – which is still enormous, and a really beautiful scene – we saw some Brolgas in the distance and lots of other water birds

.We decided to stay closer in to Darwin, and are at the Free Spirit Resort – not bad, but right under the flight path of the jets...maybe they all are...hope there is a curfew!
